As is shown in the drawing, the old man with long white beard is most eye-catcing. He is struggling to keep his balance by bending his body forward and holding on to the roof handrail with his left hand, and simultaneously standing on a crutch. By contrast, the young couple who are sitting comfortably, turn a blind eye to the old man, not giving their seats to him. Much to our surprise, they even say that he has been standing for hours not feeling tired at all. They are really showing no consideration of the old man’s sufferings.

Dictionaris are of GREat use and help in learnig English.They are just like teachers when we need help.When we meet new words,just turn to them for help.They will never refuse to offer great to us.They can tell us how a word is pronounced,what it means and how it is used.Some people even like to use electronic dictionaries.Because electronic dictionaries can not only tell us the sound and meaning of words, they can also pronounce the words out like real people,they are easy to carry and use.
We have to use dictionaries properly and we needn't look up every word in the dictionaries.Sometimes we havt to guess the meaning out according to the context.

Adult Education 成人教育
Every Tuesday and Friday evening sees Miss Li，my neighbor and a secretary in a company rush home after a hard day’s work，gulp down her meals and then hurry out to catch the bus for her English class. Miss Li’s case is not unique，and now more and more city adults spend their leisure time trying to improve themselves at school or college.
There are a number of reasons for people to go back for their education. Some people，like Miss Li，are doing it to acquire another degree or diploma to impress the society. To them more knowledge，or rather，more credentials means more opportunities for better jobs and quicker promotion.
Other people，especially those who are laid off or out of employment go to vocational school to prepare to return to the job market. They are eager for new skills so that they can be qualified for the jobs in retail trade，administration，education and other service categories to which they are strange because most of them were blue-collar workers in the factory.
There are also people who come to take such courses as Chinese traditional medicine，painting，calligraphy and photography. As their working weeks decline people begin to have time to fulfill their old dream of their heart’s desire.
Out of necessity or out of interest，people go back to school for the common goal——to improve themselves，and this boom in adult education，in turn，helps to raise the intellectual standard of the whole country.

young men and women today are finding it more and more necessary to protest against what is known as the ‘ establishment’: that is, the people who wield power in our society. clashes with the authorities are reported almost daily in the press. the tension that exists between old and young could certainly be lessened if some of the most obvious causes were removed. in particular, the establishment should adopt different attitudes to work and the rewards it brings. today’s young people are ambitious. many are equipped with fine educations and are understandably impatient to succeed as quickly as possible. they want to be able to have their share of the good things in life while they are still young enough to enjoy them. the establishment, however, has traditionally believed that people should be rewarded according to their age and experience. ability counts for less. as the establishment controls the purse strings, its views are inevitably imposed on society. employers pay the smallest sum consistent with keeping you in a job. you join the hierarchy and take your place in the queue. if you are young, you go to the very end of queue and stay there no matter how brilliant you are. what you know is much less important than whom you know and how old you are. if you are able, your abilities will be acknowledged and rewarded in due course---that is, after twenty or thirty years have passed. by the time you will be considered old enough to join the establishment and you will be expected to adopt its ideals. god help you if you don’t.
there seems to be a gigantic conspiracy against young people. while on the one hand society provides them with better educational facilities, on the other it does its best to exclude them from the jobs that really matter. there are exceptions, of course. some young people do manage to break through the barrier despite the restrictions, but the great majority have to wait patiently for years before they can really give full rein to their abilities.this means that, in most fields, the views of young people are never heard because there is no one to represent them. all important decisions about how society is to be run are made by people who are too old to remember what it was like to be young. president kennedy was one of the notable exceptions. one of the most tragic aspects of his assassination is that mankind was deprived of a youthful leader.
resentment is the cause of great deal of bitterness. the young resent the old because they feel deprived of the good things life has to offer. the old resent the young because they are afraid of losing what they have. a man of fifty or so might say,’ why should a young rascal straight out of school earn more than i do?’ but if the young rascal is more able, more determined, harder-working than his middle-aged critic, why shouldn’t he? employers should recognize ability and reward it justly. this would remove one of the biggest causes of friction between old and young and ultimately it would lead to a letter society.
