It cannot be denied that almost everyone’s life has been affected since reform and opening-up policies launched in the end of 1978. But what does it really mean when we talk about these changes？
Firstly the reform and opening-up policies can be separated into two parts——reform policies and opening-up policies . From a more macroscopic perspective, reform includes economic restructuring, that is, transforming the highly centralized planned economy into a socialist market economy system. In my study opening-up policies mainly refers to opening to the outside world in form of investment, trade, and further more open to acquiring advanced technology, management skills and economic cooperation chances.
However, in order to figure out the effectiveness of reform and opening-up policy, we may not necessarily dig into government policies and these surveys from institute of economics, but in my perspective just focus on a small village in my hometown.
Almost half a century before, farmers like my grandparents usually lived in huts which were in poor quality. For instance, the roof that was made of thatch could easily leak when it rained or be blown off under heavy storm. Although both my grandparents were looking forward to the world outside, they had never actually walked out of village as the farthest place my grandfather had ever visited during the first half of his life is the farmer commune of village nearby, regardless of my grandmother whose social status is much lower than her husband. At that time nobody felt inconvenient or unsatisfied about this lifestyle as this phenomenon could be seem certainly everywhere across the mainland of china. The reason behind this vary from busy farming, transportation to individual education. But as the saying goes ‘economic basis determines superstructure’, economy is always playing a key role in the process of development of society. Leaders in the communist party also came to this point soon after trials and errors in history.
In 1978, great leaders of The People’s Republic of China, Deng Xiaoping announced the decision to reform and open up to the world outside. Over the past forty years, our country has become the second largest economy entity in the world. There are 1.3 billion people working together to realize the Chinese dream of great Chinese nation rejuvenation. Two years ago, my family caught the chance to have a family travel with both my grandparents to Beijing, the capital our country and the heart of our motherland. That is the moment that I deeply moved by gratitude from my grandparents to the great leaders, especially to Deng Xiaoping. There will not be a brand-new china or my family’s happiness without his bravery and acknowledge.
As time goes by, China’s four new inventions of 21st century which includes high-speed railway, mobile payment, shared bikes and online shopping have not only changed the life styles of chinese people, but led the trend of the world. We have at last drawn nearer the point of admitting that reform and opening-up policies must continue as a matter of destiny of development, regardless of the presence or absence of difficulty in our effort.

Hello, everyone. Today, my topic is" reform and opening- up: a personal perspective". Reform and opening-up policy has been carried out insistently for forty years ever since it was put forward in 1978. The policy is so revolutionary that it not only leads to China's quick rise in the past forty years, but also affects our lives in every possible aspect. Today I'd like to talk about three positive effects this policy has on us college students.
First of all, the policy guides us to open our eyes and see the world in a different way. It has reformed and rewritten our cognition of the world completely. Thanks to the policy, the Internet now plays an important role in our daily life. By learning about what's happening throughout the world, we broaden our horizons and enrich our knowledge. The collision of thoughts via the Internet gradually changes our thinking patterns and our world view so that we are more open and more willing to embrace new things.
Besides, since 1999, colleges in china has been expanding enrollment plan, providing plenty opportunities for millions of students to receive advanced education, which satisfies the needs for higher education and promotes educational equality. In the same time, the living standards and teaching facilities of campus have been dramatically promoted. The academic level of teachers and professors in college has improved a lot. As a result, colleges in china nowadays create a better academic atmosphere for students. China also laid much emphasis on overseas study. Since the policy was in effect，China has dispatched abroad a large number of exchange students to study advanced technologies and acquire innovative ideas. When they finished studying, they come back home and apply what they have learnt to practice. This contributes a lot to China's modernization.
Last but not least, the economic growth resulting from the policy has offered more working chances for graduates. Many innovative enterprises like Huawei, Tencent and so on sprung up in the past forty years, instilling energy into the job market. The policy has also given graduates the freedom to choose their own career path so that they can hunt for their ideal jobs and pursue their own dreams.
In conclusion the reform and opening up policy has a great influence upon lives of college students and the educational system. I believe in the foreseeable future; the policy will continue to improve our lives and contribute to the prosperity of our nation.
