自從我國在巴丹吉林沙漠深處建起酒泉衛星發射中心，就有了一條橫穿戈壁、直達發射場的300公里的專用鐵路。它是現在全國惟一一條由軍隊管理的鐵路。路邊上，孤零零有幾座被稱為“點號”的小屋，“點號”四周，沙海無邊，荒涼得象月球，只有幾叢駱駝刺在寒風中顫抖。“點號”里，就蹲著三兩個長年巡線護路的兵。他們每天與外界交往的時間是一分鐘。因為每天有趟軍用列車路過這里，扔下點郵件和給養，停留一分鐘。這就是他們見到人的惟一時刻。日復一日、年復一年的寂寞，這一分鐘也就成了他們久久盼望的、也是他們最最高興的時刻。
