Why respect is importantgoing back in time, respect played an important role in survival. If we think of a small tribe wandering in the desert,we can imagine that a person not respected by anyone could be left behind and die. Such a person was considered to have no worth, no importance, no value to the group.
This, i believe is the foundation of our psychological need to feel respected.
Nowadays it seems much more possible to survive without being respected. Someone could, for example, inherit a large sum of money, have many servants and employees and have salesmen constantly calling on him and catering to him,yet not be respected in the least. Someone could also make a lot of money through having a particular talent which is valued, such as being able to dunk a basketball yet not really be respected, perhaps because of the way he treats others.
Still, there is a value to respect which money can‘t buy. Though someone‘s life might not depend on it, there are times, many times in fact, when another person has the chance to make a personal decision--a judgment call. When that person feels sincere respect for someone else, they will make a different decision than if they feel no respect, even if they have customarily shown a false, pseudo-respect to the person.
In summary, it is for both evolutionary and practical reasons that respect is important, and also why we simply feel better when we are respected.

Hemingway often thought of courage as a person＇s ability to be calm and controlled in the face of death. His theme is presented in his novel "For Whom the Bell Tolls?" the story "The Old Man and the Sea" and in our textbook "A Day＇s Wait". By misunderstanding a different thermometer the boy thought he was running a high fever and would soon die. But he took his death bravely and waited quietly for it. The boy showed us he had courage.
I think such a definition of courage is far from enough. Courage should not be limited and related only to death. In ordinary life there are common things that also show a person＇s courage. For example, on a bus trip, a thief was trying to steal a girl＇s purse. Some people saw it, but kept quiet. They were afraid to be revenged by the thief. The brave stood out and stopped the thief.
Courage means truth and justice to me. The person in a high position often hear songs in praise of him. Some people are sincere. Some are only flattering the superior in their own favor. The leader also needs courage to welcome criticism as well as those who have the courage to criticize him. Such courage may come from mutual understanding. I think a man of courage will value truth and justice, and not hesitate in his actions to do what he thinks is right, There is no such word as fear in his dictionary.

在我看來，勇氣就是豎持真理和正義。一個地位高的人聽到的往往是贊歌，有些人是出于真誠，而有些人卻是為己之私而迎合上司的。正如批評別人的人需要勇氣一樣，領(lǐng)導(dǎo)者也要有勇氣接受人家的批評。這種勇氣來自相互理解。我想，一個有勇氣的人將維系真理與正義，他會毫猶豫地去做自己認為正確的事，在勇取者的字典中，沒有害怕這個字眼。

Yes, she＇s so good. There＇re numerous examples I can cite to illustrate her tenderness, delicacy, warmth and her genuine love for me. A call on the cold winter night, a surprising birth day gift, a pair of gloves that warm up not only my hands, so many times has my heart melted into a sentiment called "being moved".
I＇m not a good tempered guy. However, my girlfriend never loses her temper whenever I am not in a good mood or even say sharp words to her.At that time, she＇d look at me with great care and touch my hands with hers to calm me down.That＇s her graceful manner to show her deepest concern.
I have never written a love letter to her though I＇ve received many from my dearest girlfriend. It＇s not that I＇m unwilling to compose one, but that I find it impossible to convey my feelings to her with written words. We＇ve been in love for more than one year. But if once more asked to give reasons why I love her, I guess I＇d still say because she＇s so good.
