　　據說很久很久以前，天地還沒有形成，到處是一片混沌。它無邊無沿，沒有上下左右，也不分東南西北，樣子好像一個渾圓的雞蛋。這渾圓的東西當中，孕育一個人類的祖先——盤古。

　　過了一萬八千年，盤古在這渾圓的東西中孕育成熟了。他發現眼前漆黑一團，非常生氣，就用自己制造的斧子劈開了這混混沌沌的圓東西。隨著一聲巨響，圓東西里的混沌，輕而清的陽氣上升，變成了高高的藍天，重而濁的陰氣下沉，變成了廣闊的大地。從此，宇宙間就有了天地之分。

　　盤古出世后，頭頂藍天，腳踏大地，挺立在天地之間。以后，天每日增高一丈，地每日增厚一丈，盤古也每日長高一丈。這樣又經過一萬八千年，天高得不能再高，地深得不能再深，盤古自己也變成了九萬里長的頂天立地的巨人，像一根柱子一樣撐著天和地，使它們不再變成過去的混沌狀態。

　　盤古開天辟地后，天地間只有他一個人。因為天地是他開辟出來的，所以他的情緒有什么變化，天地也跟著發生不同的變化。他高興的時候，天空晴朗;他發怒的時候，天空陰沉;他哭泣的時候，天空下雨，落到地上匯成江河湖海;他嘆氣的時候，大地上刮起狂風，他眨眨眼睛，天空出現閃電;他發出鼾(han)聲，空中響起隆隆的雷鳴聲。
