由于眾所周知，這兩個(gè)青銅獸首均是在清代裝飾圓明園。 1860年，英法聯(lián)軍闖入北京，燒毀了皇家園林，帶走了中國的藝術(shù)作品以百萬計(jì)，其中包括兩個(gè)頭的遺跡。
我國政府強(qiáng)烈反對(duì)這次拍賣，并一再為他們自由返回要求按照國際法律。同時(shí)，我國人民已采取行動(dòng)，太。有些人甚至飛到了法國，試圖阻止銷售。然而，法國的公司就是不聽。
