　　While Paris may hold the official title,the City of Lights is better represented by America's Playground,Las Vegas.This notorious hedonist destination offers visitors every opportunity to make it or break it,beckoning them with pulsating neon and the chance to win big,not to mention plenty of great restaurants,bars,clubs and shopping venues where you can proudly flaunt your winnings.There's no question as to why Las Vegas was given the nickname,America's Playground. From casinos to wildlife reserves,dance clubs to dance performances,entertainment is not lacking here.There are plenty of ways to spend your days (and nights),some of which won't cost you a thing.If you're in Vegas,you must visit a few of the massive casinos strewn throughout the city and centralized along the Strip.But gambling isn't the only thing to do here:The city houses numerous spas,performance venues,clubs and even kid-friendly attractions.There are even other diversions attached to the casinos -- you can take a gondola ride at the Venetian,check out the view atop Paris' Eiffel Tour or enjoy the fantastic fountain show at the Bellagio.You should also swing by the Fremont Street Experience (also known as FSE) in downtown Las Vegas,a five-block pedestrian walkway that hosts free concerts and performances throughout the week.

　　To be an American is, as Henry James famously observed, a complex fate. Vibrate he did, in the ornate and extraordinary periods of his late phase, and the result was a one-of-a-kind travel book, The American Scene.What appalls him the most, though, is the Almighty Dollar, which he perceives as the preliminary American postulate, the very bedrock of New World life: This basis is that of active pecuniary gain and of active pecuniary gain only--that of one's making the conditions so triumphantly pay that the prices, the manners, the other inconveniences, take their place as a friction it is comparatively easy to salve, wounds directly treatable with the wash of gold. Some will argue that the fussbudget author had spent too much time in England, where money remained a dirty word until after the Second World War. Others may find his diagnosis eerily prescient. In any case, The American Scene remains required reading for anybody interested in U.S. history, Henry James, or the incredible evolution of the compound sentence.

You'll never be bored here.This is an international fashion capital with the hottest dining scene in the country and some of the best theater options you could ever find.Plus,nearly the entire city is covered in some of the most recognizable icons in the country,including the lights of Times Square and the unmistakable Empire State Building.If you live in a major East Coast city,chances are you'll be able to get to New York for relatively cheap by bus -- BoltBus and Megabus are just a couple companies that transfer visitors to NYC for cheap.The buzzing Big Apple allures people today just as it always has.See,not only is NYC the most populous city in the U.S.-- filled with everyone from bohemian artists to investment bankers -- it's also at the forefront of food,fashion,the arts and nightlife (it is,after all,the city that never sleeps).But perhaps you're turned off by images of clogged streets and cacophonous cabs,the chaotic (at best) Times Square and the claustrophobic feeling of walking amongst soaring skyscrapers.You might also object to the many must-see attractions -- the Empire State Building,the Statue of Liberty,the Brooklyn Bridge and more.
