　　下大雨，有人打著傘，有人沒帶傘。沒傘的挨著有傘的，鉆到傘底下去躲雨，多少有點(diǎn)掩蔽，可是傘的邊緣滔滔流下水來，反而比外面的雨更來得兇。擠在傘沿下的人，頭上游得稀濕。

　　當(dāng)然這是說教式的寓言，意義很明顯：窮人結(jié)交富人，往往要賠本，某一次在雨天的街頭想到這一節(jié)，一直沒有寫出來，因?yàn)樘裨G廠①先生茶話的作風(fēng)了。

　　It’s pouring. Some people are carrying umbrellas and some people are not. Those who don’t have an umbrella press against those who do, squeezing beneath the edges of passing umbrellas to avoid the rain and afford themselves a little shelter. But the water cascading from the umbrellas turns out to be worse than the rain itself, and the heads of the people squeezed in between are soaked to the skin.

　　This is a parable, of course, the moral of which is perfectly clear: when poor folks associate with the rich, they usually get soaked. I thought of it one rainy day but never wrote it down, because it sounds too much like the style of the tabloid “tea talks” of Mr. Nachang (1).

　　張愛玲大雅大俗。說她雅，她出身于逐漸沒落的貴族家庭，有著深厚的中西合璧的文化底蘊(yùn)，因而能夠?qū)懗龀Ｈ瞬荒軐懙奈恼?說她俗，因?yàn)樗?jīng)歷了常人難得經(jīng)歷的世情，她自小就對金錢看得很重，斤斤計較。也許正因?yàn)樗椎焦亲永铮瑳]有了一般文人的自高自貴的毛病，所以她總能理解生活中蕓蕓眾生的苦難與心理訴求，因此她的文章于清淡處藏珠璣，在平靜中響驚雷。
