I seldom talk to anybody after work, not like what I do in English Salon. I will be talkative only when I drink with my buddies. And I don’t talk much on big parties, nor do I do to my wife at home.
What I always prefer to do is having 2 or 3 of my good friends in a comfortable KTV room, drinking and talking about anything we like. I call it “Men’s Talk”. Because most of the topics we talk about are not the stuff girls like to hear.
The other reason why we don’t want girls to be involved into our conversations is because they like to compare and complain. Losing face is what a man afraid of in official circumstances, or when he is with his friends or colleagues. Some girls/women do not care much about where they are, whom they are facing or talking, when they start complaining about their boyfriends/husbands. This is really embarrassing for both the man who is being complained and his friends.
One day, a very good friend of mine invited me and my wife to his house for dinner. I bought a lot of dishes and beers for him, not only because of being politeness, but I knew he did not earn much. When we sat down around the table and started the dinner, I was thinking about what to talk about to him, because his wife was there. My wife enjoyed talking with his wife about cosmetics, fitness clubs, famous shopping centers, supermarkets…, etc. My friend sighed when he saw their talking. He told me he could not afford to many things he wanted to buy for his wife. And he said he was jealous to me and my wife because we earned more than RMB18000 a month. I could say nothing but tell him there were always other opportunities waiting for him.
Unfortunately, his wife overheard it. She cried. She said having married him was such a regretful thing. And she complained a lot about my friend. She kept complaining until I asked her to shut up(in an indirect way). I knew it was not polite for me to do it, though. I just couldn’t bear it any more. In the end, we took hours to calm her down. Can you imagine how embarrassed my friend was?
My wife has done similar things to me before, so I told her never ever do it in front of my friends. No matter what the man is and how much he earns, he deserves his dignity. If girls don’t understand it, they will always be kept outside of Men’s talk.
