在很深、很深的海底，有一座宏偉的城堡，里面住著六位人魚(yú)公主，她們都十分漂亮，尤其是最小的公主，她留著金色的長(zhǎng)頭發(fā)，比姐姐們都漂亮，她最喜歡聽(tīng)姐姐們說(shuō)許多海面上的新鮮事，因此，小公主常想著，有一天能自己到海面上看看。
等了又等，就在小公主十五歲生日的時(shí)候，她靜靜的游到了海面，海面上有一艘很大的船，船上許多人正舉行著盛大的生日宴會(huì)。
船上的人們舉杯祝賀：“王子!祝您生日快樂(lè)!”那個(gè)王子威風(fēng)凜凜，瀟灑英俊。人魚(yú)公主也為之著迷。
但是…… 忽然，“呼!”刮起了一陣大風(fēng)把大船吹翻了，王子也掉落海中，漂流到海面上。
“糟了!假如不趕緊救王子，他會(huì)有生命危險(xiǎn)的!”于是人魚(yú)公主費(fèi)了很大的力氣才把王子救到岸上。
“王子!醒醒吧!”人魚(yú)公主摸著王子的手說(shuō)。
這時(shí)候，人魚(yú)公主聽(tīng)見(jiàn)腳步聲走近來(lái)了，就躲到巖石后面，來(lái)的.是一位女孩她看見(jiàn)王子躺在沙灘上大吃一驚，王子在她細(xì)心的照顧下很快就清醒了。
王子對(duì)那女孩微笑著說(shuō)：“謝謝你!救了我的性命。”
人魚(yú)公主聽(tīng)了很傷心：“王子，我才是救你的人啊!”
人魚(yú)公主無(wú)法把王子忘記，因?yàn)樗侨唆~(yú)，無(wú)法與王子接近，所以每到晚上，她就游到城堡外，遠(yuǎn)遠(yuǎn)地望著王子。

當(dāng)人魚(yú)公主慢慢的睜開(kāi)雙眼，眼前的人竟是王子;但是人魚(yú)公主卻無(wú)法回答，因?yàn)樗呀?jīng)把聲音送給了魔女。
王子把人魚(yú)公主帶回了城堡，并給她穿上華麗的衣裳。
“真是個(gè)美人啊!”城堡的人都十分稱(chēng)贊人魚(yú)公主的美貌，雖然人魚(yú)公主不能說(shuō)話和唱歌，而她美妙的舞姿卻吸引了所有人的目光，但誰(shuí)都不知道人魚(yú)公主是忍受著腳痛，來(lái)取樂(lè)王子和眾人的。

有一天，王子帶著人魚(yú)公主來(lái)到了鄰國(guó)，那是上次他落海獲救的地方;王子是去與那女孩會(huì)面的。

人魚(yú)公主下定了決心，在王子睡著時(shí)進(jìn)入他的寢宮;但是看著王子安祥的臉，怎么也下不了手。
黎明時(shí)，人魚(yú)公主在甲板上自言自語(yǔ)地說(shuō)：“王子!再見(jiàn)了。”
于是人魚(yú)公主的身體慢慢地，化做了許多五彩繽紛的泡泡。
